The national competition authority sees the family as a value
Budapest, 20 September 20, 2024 - The Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH) not only protects families through its professional activities, but also acts as a family-friendly workplace. This is demonstrated by the Family Friendly Hungary Certification Mark, which has just been awarded to the GVH by the Family Friendly Hungary Centre and can be used for two years by the national competition authority. The GVH supports its staff with a number of family-friendly measures and pays great attention to the protection of children.
In recent years, the Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH) has continued to provide its staff with a range of opportunities to balance their work and family life, at all stages of their careers and personal lives. Among other things, the GVH contributes to the financial burden of childbirth and helps families with children by providing back-to-school grants.
The measures include a child-friendly office workstation, where staff can work alongside their children in a calm, undisturbed, child-friendly office environment. Staff about to start a family, or who already have a family, can also find out about the family-friendly measures and support offered by the GVH and the Hungarian government through electronic information.
Csaba Balázs Rigó, President of the GVH, emphasized that "Family is the greatest value, and the blessing of a child is the greatest joy. In 2023, 12 children were born into GVH families and already this year, several of our colleagues have enjoyed the joys of motherhood and fatherhood. We currently have 71 staff members raising 131 children under the age of 18. We are doing our utmost to ensure that their family life is compatible with their service."
The Competition Authority is also thinking about young employees. Young people can gain an insight into the work of the GVH during their university studies through internship programmes. In the GVH Podcast series, you can also listen to a discussion on how employees can develop their professional and personal skills at the national competition authority and what opportunities the GVH offers to help them achieve their career goals.

In 2022, Csaba Balázs Rigó, President of the GVH, as a member of the Roundtable for Consumer Protection, set up a Family-Friendly Working Group to strengthen the fight against misleading advertising and unfair commercial practices targeting families, especially online and in social media. The GVH proposed the inclusion of family and family relationships as a priority to be protected in the Act on the prohibition of Unfair Commercial Practices against Consumers.
In addition, the GVH's Think It Over Calmly series provides consumers and Hungarian families with a range of educational materials to help them make an informed and considered choice when selecting a product or service.
Children's use of smart devices and the dangers and risks for young people in the digital space were also a key topic at the Digital Consumer Protection 2024 conference on 19 September. In his speech, Csaba Balázs Rigó, President of the GVH, stressed the importance of actively protecting children and families.
