Experts from the European Commission and the OECD deliver lectures at the GVH’s training programme
Budapest, October 20, 2026 – The Budapest Regional Centre for Competition (RCC), jointly operated by the Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), is holding a two-day professional training course for experts from the competition authority. The aim of this annual specialist training programme is to provide GVH staff with an insight into the latest international experiences and developments in competition law. Experts from the European Commission, the OECD and European competition authorities are all holding lectures at the GVH’s training event in Budapest. The event was opened by Csaba Balázs Rigó, President of the GVH.
The RCC, jointly operated by the GVH and the OECD, is holding a two-day seminar for GVH specialists on 20–21 October 2026. The aim of the training is to provide the competition authority’s case handlers with a comprehensive insight into the latest international developments and experiences in the application of competition law. To this end, the training will not only consist of professional lectures. GVH staff will have the opportunity to explore key issues in depth through interactive, thought-provoking working groups.
The two-day training course – which is primarily designed to support the professional development of the competition authority’s analysts and case handlers – features presentations on, experiences from market studies conducted in the field of artificial intelligence, the effective detection of dark patterns, the relationship between labour markets and competition policy, and current developments in the burden of proof and standards of proof – amongst other things.
In his opening address, Csaba Balázs Rigó, President of the GVH, emphasised: “The firm and effective enforcement of competition law is essential for fair and well-functioning markets. The detection and criminal prosecution of cartels, the handling of abuses of dominant market positions, and the prevention of anti-competitive mergers are not merely legal tasks. They are essential to ensuring that consumers can benefit from lower prices, better quality and a wider choice. In the long term, this fosters innovation and builds more resilient economies.”
As part of the working groups, GVH staff members address a number of further theoretical issues and case studies. Topics under discussion include the effective detection of no-poach agreements, the consumer protection implications of dynamic pricing and personalised algorithms, as well as experiences from several cartel cases. The successful organisation of the training and the coverage of the topics are supported not only by experts from the OECD and the European Commission, but also by specialists from numerous European partner authorities.
The Regional Centre for Competition in Budapest (RCC) – jointly run by the Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) – was established in 2005, with the primary aim of providing support in the field of competition law and competition policy to competition authorities in Eastern and South-eastern Europe and Central Asia, leveraging the expertise of both institutions, by organising training courses and other professional programmes.
There are a total of four such centres in the world: in Budapest, Peru, the Republic of Korea and Saudi Arabia. The Budapest centre currently cooperates with 17 beneficiary countries; a detailed list of which can be found on the organisation’s website. The RCC celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2025. Over the past two decades, it has organised more than 160 events, providing over 6,000 experts with the opportunity to share their knowledge and exchange experiences. Further information on the activities of the training centre is available on the websites of the Hungarian Competition Authority and the Regional Centre for Competition.
