Budapest, September 18, 2026 – The Budapest Regional Centre for Competition (RCC), jointly run by the Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), has organised another seminar, this time in the city of Málaga, Spain. The professional training was carried out jointly by the University of Málaga and the Andalusian Competition Authority, with more than 40 experts participating. The aim of the seminar was to provide new entrants to the competition authorities of the beneficiary countries with a comprehensive understanding of the key areas of competition law and to give them an insight into the day-to-day practical aspects of competition law enforcement.
The Regional Centre for Competition in Budapest (RCC) – jointly run by the Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) – was established in 2005, with the primary aim of providing support in the field of competition law and competition policy to competition authorities in Eastern and South-eastern Europe and Central Asia, leveraging the expertise of both institutions, by organising training courses and other professional programmes. There are a total of four such centres in the world: in Budapest, Peru, the Republic of Korea and Saudi Arabia. The Budapest centre currently cooperates with 17 beneficiary countries; a detailed list of which can be found on the organisation’s website.
The RCC organised a four-day professional training in Málaga, Spain, between 15 and 18 September 2026. The organisation hosted the event in collaboration with the University of Málaga and the Andalusian Competition Authority. The training was attended by 30 staff members from 16 competition authorities, with a total of 11 experts – from both authorities and academia – helping them delve deeper into the topics.
The main objective of the event was to prepare new entrants to the competition authorities of beneficiary countries for the challenges of competition law enforcement. To this end, participants gained a comprehensive understanding of the key areas of competition law and gained an insight into the day-to-day work of competition authorities. During the hands-on seminars, they received practical advice on complex procedural issues such as dawn-raids, the assessment of mergers, and the impact of leniency policy on the calculation of fines.
The RCC celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2025. Over the past two decades, it has organised more than 160 events, providing over 6,000 experts with the opportunity to share their knowledge and exchange experiences.
