Renewed co-operation between the GVH and the Infocommunications Authority

The co-operation agreement, signed by the president of the GVH (Gazdasági Versenyhivatal - Hungarian Competition Authority) and the NMHH (Nemzeti Média- és Hírközlési Hatóság - National Media and Infocommunications Authority), is entered into force on 1 March. The aim of this co-operation is to help the organizations to harmonize the supervision more effectively over media, electronic newscast and postal services markets. According to the agreement that the NMHH provides access for the GVH to the database of advertisements appearing in television and radio for the first time.

The document stipulates the conditions, which makes the co-operation between the GVH and the NMHH easier in the field of supervision over media, electronic newscast and postal services markets. The two authorities inform each other about sectoral and specialised authority inquiries, about procedures for market analysis, market control and competition control, about their advocacy opinions, and they hold consultations regularly with the participation of colleagues of the two organizations. They will endeavour to harmonize their communications activity to increase consumer awareness.

The NMHH makes the database of advertisements appearing in national television and radio for the first time available for the GVH, in order to foster the registration of misleading advertisements and unfair commercial practices against consumers.

The document replaces the agreement which was in force since 2005. The revised agreement will make cooperation even more easier and effective for both authorities in respect to the supervision of the media, electronic newscast and postal services markets, to ensure the reliable and transparent functioning of these fields, as well as to improve fair competition and to promote business confidence.

The full text of the agreement is available on the homepages of the GVH and the NMHH.
