Participants had the opportunity to deepen their knowledge on cartel agreements
Budapest, 13 December 2024 – The Regional Training Centre, jointly run by the Hungarian Competition Authority and the OECD, held its now traditional training course for judges in Budapest. The winter session of the European Commission-funded training series brought together 32 judges to discuss the details of cartel assessment.
Judicial trainings are a prominent element of the training programme of the Regional Centre for Competition in Budapest (RCC), jointly run by the Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The aim of the seminars is to provide judges in the European Union and in the ROK beneficiary countries with up-to-date knowledge of competition law enforcement. The training centre held its traditional annual training course on 12-13 December 2024, further enhancing the expertise and knowledge of competition law among the judges of the region.
The two-day event centred around cartel agreements. During the training, the participating judges learned about the economic background of these agreements and examined examples of price fixing, buyers and labour market cartels. They also covered cases of collusion in public procurement procedures. In total, 32 judges from 19 countries attended the training, which again included presentations by OECD experts, as well as experts from competition authorities and private firms.
The RCC was established on 16 February 2005, with the primary aim of providing support in the field of competition law and competition policy to competition authorities in Eastern and South-eastern Europe and Central Asia, leveraging the expertise of both institutions. In early December, Csaba Balázs Rigó, President of the GVH, presented the annual report and next year's programme plan of the training centre at the OECD Competition week in Paris.
The Budapest Training Centre will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2025. Over this period, the Centre has organised 30 judicial training courses, attended by approximately 1000 judges. The RCC is preparing for 2025 with its full portfolio of programmes, including newsletters, educational videos, and a total of seven international seminars. More information on the activities of the RCC is available on the websites of the Hungarian Competition Authority and the Regional Centre for Competition.
