ROYAL AMBASSADOR LTD

Royal Ambassador sells products by its mail order service. It sent its invitation for applying of a prize draw campaign to a great number of potential consumers. Many consumers made their complaints on the prize campaign to the Office of Economic Competition as they considered the invitation as unfair since the rule of participation was at an almost invisible place and it was hardly readable.

The Competition Council qualified the market conduct of the Royal Ambassador as unlawful and capable for deception of consumers since the conditions of the prize could be hardly seen and read in the brochure.

The Competition Council took into consideration also the four previous condemnatory decisions against Royal Ambassador on the similar subject and the great number of orderings of the consumers. In its decision the Competition Council banned the unlawful market conduct of the Royal Ambassador and imposed a fine amounting to HUF 20 millions (about 90 000 ECU). The Competition Council ordered the immediate implementation of its decision.
